The mutual transmission of images expressed in color and sound was examined. Study 1 looked at the correspondence between colors represented as sound and musical sounds represented as color. Study 2 looked at how the viewer appreciates paintings depicting images of sound and how the sounds are “read” by the viewer. The broad conclusion from Study 1 was that there is an interrelationship between the quality of color and the range of sound. From Study 2, we found that it is possible to convey the intensity and nuance of sound expressed as color.
