Interviews about wife-husband role sharing, child-centered orientation, division of consciousness between inside and outside family, romantic love of married couples, and the gender personality of 24 Japanese people living overseas in Australia were carried out. The results showed that the Japanese family orientation of the interviewees was influenced by some working conditions and social security systems in Australia: family life had a priority to working life, and the individuals’ social status was not affected by marriage status, which seemed to facilitate psychological individualization and to repress family-unit orientation. Moreover, such a mind of the couples was suggested to contribute to individual personality as prevention from gender influence.
