We found that（1）in school education and early childhood settings, learning Japanese is the central issue for children with diverse cultural backgrounds ;（2）there is a national policy to support Japanese language learning, but no specific support for learning and maintaining the native language;（3）because of the importance of support for early childhood native language acquisition, early childhood educators must work together with families. Currently, communication mainly relates to belongings and health matters and does not involve the details of children’s education. Based on these findings, we consider that both early childhood educators and families must be given opportunities to recognize the importance of respecting the native language during early childhood.
